Columbia Court holds grand re-opening after $3.8 million in renovations

National Church Residences held a grand re-opening for Columbia Court, 275 W. Columbia Ave. in Belleville, on Dec. 15 after completing $3.8 million in renovations.
This is the latest in a series of extensive renovations by National Church Residences to preserve existing low-income senior housing in the Detroit Area.
Since 2012, National Church Residences has spent $21.1 million on four such renovations: Lakeside Towers, 115 residents, $6.9 million; Park Place at Harper Woods, 132 residents, $6.4 million; Canton Place, 118 residents, $4 million; and Columbia Court, 108 residents, $3.8 million.
Belleville Mayor Kerreen Conley was among the speakers at Columbia Court’s grand re-opening event.
Other speakers were Wayne County Deputy Chief of Staff Bernard Parker III, MSHDA LIHTC Program Manager Andy Martin, HUD Detroit Field Office Director Michael Polsinelli and National Church Residences Development Corp. President Michelle Norris.
With funds to build new housing for low-income seniors zeroed out in the federal budget, National Church Residences, working with MSHDA, HUD and others, conducted the major renovations that will allow existing affordable senior housing communities to continue to house seniors for the next 20 years.
National Church Residences is a not-for-profit organization that integrates housing, health care and supportive services, serving seniors of all income levels and families.
