Jackie Ray Bowers, 47, was due for his preliminary exam on Aug. 16 at 34th District Court before Judge David Parrott, but the charge against Bowers was dismissed after a surveillance picture of the perpetrator was definitely not Bowers.
He had been charged with possession of a counterfeit prescription form for a controlled substance on Oct. 31, 2015. He was identified by a clerk.
“Everyone involved looked at the still picture and looked at Mr. Bowers, a 40-year-old, robust person, and laughed,” said his court-appointed attorney Dave Lankford. He said the surveillance picture showed an older person with white hair and a cane.
The charge was “dismissed in the interest of justice,” Lankford said. “It’s not even the same guy.”
Van Buren Township Detective Ken Toney was the officer in charge of the case.
Adrianne Pierce Geyer
Adrianne Pierce Geyer, 28, failed to show up for two probable cause hearings, one on a charge of unlawful use of a motor vehicle in Belleville on Nov. 6, and the other for being in possession of narcotics or cocaine less than 25 grams on April 9, 2016, brought by the Western Wayne Narcotics unit.
She was out on $5,000 personal recognizance bond on each charge and her bonds were revoked and a bench warrant put out for her arrest by Judge Parrott. Geyer’s court appointed attorney is Eric Goze on both charges.
Officer in charge of the Belleville case is Jeff Wickham. In charge of the Western Wayne Narcotics/ATU case is Officer Raschke.
Xzavier Marquette Stone
Xzavier Marquette Stone, 17, waived his probable cause conference and Judge Parrott bound him over to circuit court for an arraignment on the information on Aug. 30. He is charged with stealing a financial transaction device and retaining it without permission on Nov. 8 in Van Buren Township.
His retained attorney is Mohammed Nasser and Stone is out on $5,000 personal recognizance bond. Officer in charge of the case is VBT Det. Donovan McCarthy.
David Joseph Toepfer
David Joseph Toepfer, 41, waived the requirement for a probable cause conference within 21 days and his probable cause conference was reset to Aug. 30 so his retained attorney Raymond Waldo could study new evidence he obtained. His preliminary exam was reset for Sept. 6.
Toepfer has been charged with criminal sexual conduct-2nd degree on June 6 in VBT. Toepfer is free on $5,000 personal recognizance bond. Officer in charge of the case is Officer Jeff Stanton.
Jalen Devon Scott
Charges against Jalen Devon Scott, 22, were dismissed without prejudice because the prosecution was missing a central witness in the case. Charges could be reinstated in the future.
He had posted bond of $10,000/10% and that was to be returned.
Scott was scheduled for his preliminary exam on charges of weapons / firearms / larceny, larceny in a building, and using a firearm to commit a felony on June 18, 2016 in Belleville. Officer Wickham is the officer in charge of the case.
Margaret Teresa Crittenden
Margaret Teresa Crittenden, 59, waived her 21-day time constraint and Judge Parrott adjourned her probable cause conference so her court-appointed attorney can negotiate a plea deal. Her probable cause conference was set for Aug. 30 and her preliminary exam for Sept. 6.
Crittenden is charged with fleeing a police officer in a vehicle, driving while intoxicated, and possession of marijuana in Belleville on Nov. 8. Officer in charge of the case is Officer Wickham.
Crittenden is free after posting $10,000/10% bond.
Noah Gray Dobbins
Noah Gray Dobbins, 31, waived his preliminary exam by video from the Wayne County Jail where he was lodged on a charge of assaulting / resisting / obstructing a police officer in Belleville on July 30.
Judge Parrott bound him over to circuit court for an arraignment on the information on Aug. 23.
Dobbins asked Judge Parrott to reduce his $10,000/10% bond to personal recognizance bond so he could get out to go see his father in the hospital. He said his father is in bad shape and he is the sole caregiver. Judge Parrott recommended pretrial services look at the situation and make a decision.
Cpl. Kris Faull is the officer in charge of the case.
Michael Leandra Orr
Michael Leandra Orr, 28, was present in the courtroom via video from the Wayne County Jail for his probable cause conference on charges of assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, and felonious assault on Aug. 1 in VBT.
Retained defense attorney Antwuan Hawkins wanted to get the bond of $100,000/10% reduced for his client who he said had a clean record, was not a flight risk, and had family that supported him. Hawkins requested personal bond.
“It’s not going to happen,” said Judge Parrott, pointing out the charges are serious and he has to protect the public. He referred Orr to pretrial services for a review.
Orr is due for his preliminary exam on Aug. 23. Officer is charge of the case is Officer Stanton.
Jerry Lloyd Rogers
Jerry Lloyd Rogers, 26, waived his preliminary exam on charges of operating while intoxicated-3rd and driving while license suspended-2nd in VBT on Dec. 18. He is due at circuit court on Aug. 30 for an arraignment on the information.
Rogers is free after posting $10,000/10% bond. His court-appointed attorney is Frederick Smith. Officer in charge of the case is Det. Mike Long.
