At about midnight Sunday night, Rick McPhee, who lives on the lake in the 42000 block of East Huron River Drive, said he was awakened by a loud crash that he thought was thunder.
Turns out a car has veered off the road, knocked down his fence, went through the beautiful landscaping owned by him and his neighbor, Dennis Ertman, just missed some trees and Ertman’s house, and ended up nose-down in a boat well on the shoreline. It appeared no one was injured.
Several teenagers were on the roadside with another car that they said had been rear-ended by the first car. VBT Police said the incident was under investigation.
But how to get the car out was the question, since Ertman didn’t want it dragged up the hill, which would tear up the landscaping. Options included a barge, a crane, a helicopter. The homeowner’s insurance adjusters were due out on Tuesday to consider the project. The car, reportedly, had no insurance.
