The Canton Lions Club is holding a membership drive at 6 p.m., May 15, at Palermo Pizzeria & Restaurant, 44938 Ford Road, Canton Township, (734) 455-5210.
Guests are invited to share pizza with the Lions members who will tell them about the Lions Club and what it does in the Canton and Belleville communities, hoping to encourage new Lions Club memberships.
The Lions assist the blind and hearing-impaired. The club purchases eye glasses for kids throughout the Canton and Belleville communities. They also work with the Penrickton Center for Blind and multiple-handicapped children, Leader Dog School for the Blind and the Michigan Eye Bank which restores sight to three-plus people per day.
The Canton Lions Club has a diverse membership. Many of the members make themselves available to assist on fund-raising event, including euchre tournaments, pancake breakfast at Liberty Fest, corn roast in August at the big red barn at Ridge Road and Cherry Hill, or working various locations collecting money for White Cane Week or candy canes during the Christmas holidays.
To become a Lion, you must be of legal age and good moral character. Membership is by invitation, so contact a Lions member or come to one of their meetings to see if Lions Club is a good fit for you.
The Canton Lions meet at 7 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month at Rose’s Restaurant on Canton Center Road and Cherry Hill.
