Belleville High School Productions will present its fall play “Holes” by Louis Sachar today, Friday, and Saturday.
The acclaimed, young-adult novel will be brought to life onstage at the BHS Auditorium for three performances – at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15, and Friday, Nov. 16, as well as a special matinee performance at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17.
“Holes” is the story of Stanley Yelnats, a young man who is arrested and charged with a crime he did not commit. As part of his sentence, he is sent to Camp Green Lake Detention Center to perform labor, which involves digging holes in the desert every day along with other young “campers” who dig in order to “build character.”
Stanley believes all of his bad luck is due to a curse supposedly placed upon an ancestor years ago by a gypsy woman. But nothing is truly as it seems at Camp Green Lake and through a series of flashbacks from Latvia to the Old West to the present, the true story of the “curse” placed upon Stanley’s ancestors is revealed and … well, as the gypsy woman Madame Zeroni would say “You’ll have to fill in the holes yourself” by coming to see the show.
