On Aug. 28, German soldiers had captured Belleville’s museum and American soldiers came up Main Street with blazing machine guns, rifles, and cannon and recaptured the museum.
A large crowd sat and stood on the curbs watching the battle. (There were lots of casualties, but they all got up and brushed themselves off after the fighting was over.)
This reenactment of a World War II battle was promotion for the air show at Willow Run Airport. In the past, reenactors had put on a parade up Main Street. This year it was a big battle on Main Street and then an opportunity for the public to get close to the old military vehicles and admire them.
Afterward, the military vehicles did parade to Third Street up North Liberty Street and over the bridge, heading back to Willow Run.
On Sunday, a lot of celebrating went on in Belleville Lake as the air show went on overhead. A big party was held to raise money for the Yankee Air Force. DJ’s on the Lake, Chris and Alex Donley, put on a show filled with prizes and events including dancing, egg throws, and other event, all for charity and lake fun.
