Van Buren Township police are seeking a black male who robbed the BP gas station at Haggerty Road and I-94 early Sunday morning and got away with about $1,100 in cash and $150 in cigarettes.
VBT Public Safety Director Greg Laurain said at 12:17 a.m. Sunday the VBT dispatch center received a 911 call from an employee at the BP station stating an armed robbery had just occurred.
The employee told officers that while he was vacuuming the store he saw the suspect enter and then walk around the store for several minutes. Eventually, the man walked up to the counter. Then, he reached into his waistband and pulled out a revolver and pointed it at the employee.
The suspect forced the employee to the secured cash register area and made him empty the cash drawer and place all the cash into a plastic bag along with two cartons of cigarettes. The gunman then ordered the employee to lay face down on the floor until the man left the store in an unknown direction.
The suspect is described as a black male, possibly in his 30s, about 5’10” tall, 200 pounds, medium to stocky build, wearing grey sweatpants, grey sweatshirt, and a white baseball cap with a blue brim that said “DETROIT” in block blue letters on the cap.
Director Laurain said the employee described the weapon used as a black, revolver-style pistol.
Laurain said this suspect is considered armed and dangerous and any information on this robbery should be reported to the VBT Detective Bureau at (734) 699-8930.
