The March 28 meeting of the Van Buren Township Downtown Development Authority, Lisa Lothringer told what happened on the evening before the ALDI food store opening in the middle of the March 8 wind storm.
Lothringer, assistant DDA director, said crews at the store cleared the instore coolers and relocated all perishables into refrigeration trucks until power was restored at 11:30 Wednesday night. Once the coolers reached the proper temperatures, around 4:30 a.m., the crews spent the rest of the night restocking the perishables so the store could have its grand opening on time. About 200 people were waiting outside.
