Someone called 911 to say “Belleville is going to be shot up.” The call came in to the Van Buren Township dispatch center, which services Belleville and VBT, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, said Belleville Police Chief Hal Berriman.
This threat led Van Buren Public Schools Superintendent Pete Kudlak to close Belleville High School on Tuesday, March 13. The other schools in the district remained open.
Chief Berriman said VBT police are working with Belleville on the threat. The FBI called the chief and they are working at tracking down the phone used in the threat.
Police say the person who made the threat will be prosecuted when caught and those with any information are asked to call police.
BHS was closed the day before the scheduled March 14 protest against gun violence at the school.
