A barn containing pigs and lambs burned at 21185 Martinsville Road, Sumpter Township, at 5 a.m. Monday. An electrical wire over the barn was damaged by the flames along with a phone cable, according to Sumpter Fire Chief Joe Januszyk. Chief Januszyk said he believes some of the animals escaped the blaze.
In a Facebook post, Roland Apel, who owned the barn, said he lost all his piglets and two animals he calls “his girls.” He said he already has picked up 12 piglets to replace those he lost. He said the insurance adjuster was out and the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
