Library Board plans April 14 groundbreaking

At the March 13 meeting of the Belleville Area District Library Board, more-detailed plans for the 11 a.m., April 14 groundbreaking were discussed.
There will be a pile of sand, construction hats, and toys, so children can play in the sand during the event.
There will also be a backhoe at the site as an indication of what’s happening. Instead of lunch, as previously considered, there will be cake to celebrate.
Invitations to the event are being mailed next week and are available at the library.
The six-foot-high chain link fence to block off the Fourth Street construction site will be put up around May 1, architect Dan Whisler told the board.
Then, they will dig a six-foot hole in the nicely paved surface to become “a really big pothole.” That’s where the soil will be replaced with other soil for a better foundation.
The building committee has been waiting for the removal of the power lines over Fourth and Roys streets, since they need to be gone before workers begin erecting structural steel. The agreement with DTE was approved almost a year ago.
“DTE has its own pace,” Whisler said.
