Last week, Kathleen A. Klein, community relations representative for Waste Management, said the landfill will be a sponsor of the regional robotics competition on March 24, as well as a sponsor of the Belleville High School robotics team.
She said Waste Management is sponsor of three local robotics teams in Southeastern Michigan where it has a landfill presence: Richmond, Lake Orion, and Belleville.
Klein said students utilize STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) skills for a hands-on educational experience building and competing with their robots.
“It is a great educational event and industries like ours are relying more and more on technology and automation like robotics and artificial intelligence to assist with managing costs associated with recycling and the handling of waste as a resource,” she said. “It is a natural fit for WM to be a sponsor and we look forward to this event.”
Klein thanked the Independent for printing information on the competition that was necessary for WM to have to decide to become involved.
