In Van Buren Township every candidate is a Democrat on the township ballot for local offices next Tuesday, so whoever wins on Tuesday will probably win in November. The important decisions will be made Tuesday.
There is a non-partisan candidate that will be on the ballot in November and maybe others, but the strongest candidates will fight it out Aug. 2.
In Sumpter Township it’s pretty-much the same story – all Democratic candidates on the primary ballot, with but one Republican trustee candidate. That candidate will face off in November with the four Democratic trustee winners from Tuesday’s decision.
In Sumpter there are two Democratic slates running, but voters have to fill out the ballot one name at a time and slates are not listed on the ballot.
The State Representative decision is different in Sumpter (District 17) from Van Buren Township, which has two different State Rep. districts within its borders (Districts 12 and 21).
Kind of confusing, but the right district names will be on your ballot.
This is an exciting time and by next Wednesday morning we should have an idea of what our township leadership will look like for the next four years.
Then it will be on to November, when we will be asked to make other important decisions. Voting is so very important in these troubled times. Don’t forget to vote!
- Previous story Primary Election day is Tuesday, Aug. 2; polls open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Get out there and vote! Every vote counts.
Glad to see the Budd and Hart propaganda blowing all over the south end of the Township. Nice to see they care enough to litter their trash all over the place.
The Aug. 2nd Primary for VBT Officials is critical for the VBT residents to vote. The 7 Democrats elected in the Primary will face only one independent opponent for Trustee in the Nov. General Election. Therefore, the Primary will determine at least six positions for the next Board. VOTE Aug. 2nd.

VOTE. No more political machines, no more career politicians. If Budd wins, and if McNamara wins he will take directions from her, he’s lived in the township for only a few years. Budd will be supervisor again if McNamara or Hart wins. VOTE: Roesch to rotate the crops!!!!
McClanahan has the strength and integrity to dig us out of this “good ole’ boy”way of doing things.
White has the experience and “inside knowledge” to get us out of the Visteon mess without penalizing the residents with an additional tax.
Thank you to CJ for reminding us that Trustee McClanahan voted NO to an additional tax for the failed public safety millage. McClanahan wanted a renewal of the 4 mills for public safety NOT an increase to 6 mills so that the residents would be paying for the Visteon shortfall. Thank you MCCLANAHAN for reminding the rest of the board that this was not the time to ask the residents for more money. She was right, the increase failed at the polls.
Just reminding everyone of Ostrowskis multiple absenses in his last four years on the board. He was heard by someone recently stating he needed “health insurance.” Probably his only reason for running. Another person trying to take advantage of the perks and not wanting the job for the right reasons.
Budd complained that McNamara was making promises he couldn’t keep. SHE WAS RIGHT!!! McNamara agrees with asking the residents to pay for a tax increase!!
