Smeart Heart Foundation announces the 2016-17 scholarship award winners: Sarah Nickelson of Monroe, Jared Anderson of Bay City, and Mackenzie Lampe of Whitmore Lake.
Smeart Heart Foundation has been a Michigan non-profit since August 2014. It was founded by a small group of people whose lives were impacted by Congenital Heart Disease (CHD). The vision of celebrating and recognizing the challenges of living with CHD through a scholarship program is now a reality.
When her son was making plans to go to college, Suzanne Eidson of Van Buren Township noticed the lack of scholarships for young people with congenital heart defects, like him and laid the foundation for Smeart Heart.
CHD is the #1 birth defect, affecting one in every 125 babies. The number of adults 18 and older, however, with CHD outnumbers the number of children with CHD in Michigan.
Smeart Heart is hosting its second-annual “Hearts & Games Night” from 6 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6, at Dave & Buster’s, 19375 Victor Parkway, Livonia 48152. CHD families and those who support them are all invited to join in. One-hundred percent of the silent auction proceeds supports the scholarship fund.
