A fire engine from Sumpter Township, a 3,000-gallon tanker from the City of Belleville, and two fire engines from Ypsilanti Township helped Van Buren Township fire department extinguish a blaze involving a shed and three mobile homes at Ash and Pine streets in Van Buren Estates mobile home park on Lohr Road early Saturday morning.
The outside fire departments giving automatic mutual aid helped to shuttle water to the scene because the only hydrant there is outside the park.
The neighbors made statements on Facebook that the fire was caused by fireworks because a family there was shooting off fireworks earlier in the night.
VBT Fire Chief Dan Besson said his department is sifting through the witness statements, homeowner statements, and scene evidence to come up with a cause. “We have to rule out several things before we list a concrete cause,” Chief Besson said.
