The Van Buren Public Schools Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, June 27, to approve the proposed 2016-17 budget and the amended 2015-16 budget.
At a special meeting on Monday, attended by about a dozen people, Finance Director Shareen Barker presented the figures. None of the public spoke at the hearing.
The amended 2015-16 budget had $50,242,167 in expenditures which was $1,371,751 more than the revenue. That was taken from fund balance to balance the books.
The 2016-17 proposed budget has expenditures of $47,532,235, which is $2,088,855 more than revenue, necessitating using fund balance to balance that budget.
Fund balance as of June 30, the end of this fiscal year, will be $6,717,792. The expected fund balance June 30, 2017 is $4,628,957, which amounts to 10.18% of the general fund budget.
