Belleville High School Coach Peggy Curtis and her BHS Softball Team won the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s District title for the fifth year in a row.
The varsity softball team defeated Lincoln Softball 5-4, on June 4 in the District Championship.
In an 11-inning, hard-fought battle the Tigers broke a 2-2 tie with a two-run homer from senior pitcher Jayla Jackson and a RBI fielder’s choice by Madyson Ampe driving in Hailey Clement.
The previous two runs which were scored in the fifth inning came from an RBI from Kacee McWilliams who drove in Sam Jernigan who had singled to start the inning and Andrea Rodriquez drove in MacKenzie Kennedy who had also singled in the inning.
Jayla Jackson took the win giving up 7 hits and striking out 13. In the semi-final game against Ypsilanti, Jayla Jackson pitched a perfect game, giving up no hits, no walks and no errors and striking out 17 batters. Supplying the offense for the 7-0 victory were Hailey Clement who was 4 for 4 with 3 singles and a double. MacKenzie Kennedy had two hits.
The Tigers played on Saturday June 11, at Saline High School in Regionals and lost to Allen Park, 4-0.
Coach Curtis is retiring at the end of the season.
