On Saturday, June 11, a suspect was taken into custody for questioning in connection with an armed robbery at the Comfort Inn in Van Buren Township on June 8.
Van Buren Township Police, along with police agencies from Canton and Ann Arbor, worked on robberies believed to have been committed by the same suspect.
Video obtained from the Comfort Inn in Van Buren, the Super 8 Motel in Canton, and a Jimmy John’s Restaurant in Ann Arbor robbed this past week, helped tie these robberies to the same suspect.
VBT detectives, with assistance from the Michigan Department of Corrections, helped in identifying the suspects who had been incarcerated for a previous Home Invasion crime and was on tether release.
The suspect was taken into custody on parole violations Saturday morning at a hotel in Ann Arbor by police and Michigan Department of Corrections officers until he can be arraigned on robbery charges by all three agencies.
The armed robbery at the Comfort Inn Motel on the South I-94 Service Drive was at 3:50 a.m., June 8. The clerk told police the man ran in the front door with a black revolver handgun and fired one shot at the front desk wall and then demanded money.
The clerk opened the cash drawer at which time the suspect climbed on top of the counter and fired another shot into the counter. The man reached into the cash drawer taking more than $250 in cash and then fled outside.
The suspect was described as a black male with dark complexion, of medium build, wearing a white, long-sleeved sweatshirt, grey sweatpants, white tennis shoes, sunglasses, white hat with black trim and a white mask/bandanna covering his face.
The clerk was unharmed and the robber was last seen running out the front doors to an unknown SUV waiting in the parking lot. He was considered armed and dangerous, police said.
