In a special meeting at 4 p.m., Friday, March 11, the Sumpter Township Board of Trustees met for about five minutes to take care of business.
Then, the board went into closed-door session to discuss matters having to do with the American Federation of State, City and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) union contract. When board members came out of closed-door session, they adjourned without action.
At the beginning of the meeting, the board approved the retirement package for Sumpter Police Chief James Pierce, Jr.
Although it was not announced at the meeting, Human Resources Director / Payroll Clerk Maria Beaudrie later said the package included payout of all unused sick, personal and vacation time owed to him; two months worth of severance / compensation pay; and three months of medical insurance.
In other business at the March 11, the board:
• Approved, on a roll-call vote, paying warrants totaling $1,014,066.29;
• Set a public hearing for 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, to consider the 2016-17 township budget; and
• Set a public hearing at 6:15 p.m., Tuesday, March 22, for proposed transfer of federal Community Development Block Grant funds.
Trustee Don Swinson was absent from the special meeting because he was at work.
