The Belleville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4434 is running its Community Service Project for the year: “Operation Torn and Tattered.”
VBT Quartermaster Adjutant Ross Medaus said Monday that out of 53 flags brand-new flags they had to give away, they still have 18 left to exchange for tattered flags. Once swapped, the old flags will be properly retired in a flag burning ceremony.
People wishing to take advantage of the flag swap are invited to call the VFW Post at (734) 697-0505 and leave a clear message, repeating slowly the name of the caller and the phone number. A VFW member will return the call and make arrangements for the swap.
At the March 6 Bugles Across America event at the Veterans’ Memorial, arrangements were made in advance and the VFW exchanged 26 flags that night.
