Although the deadline is 4 p.m., April 19, to file a petition to be a candidate for township board in the Aug. 2 state primary election, Van Buren Township already has three petitions turned in.
Deputy Clerk Joanne Montgomery said petitions have been turned in by Phil Hart for supervisor, Leon Wright for clerk, and Reggie Miller for trustee.
Sumpter Township Deputy Clerk Janet Hoffman said there have been no petitions turned in for Sumpter Township offices as of Monday afternoon.
The deadline to file petitions to run for district library board seats in the Nov. 8 general election is 4 p.m., July 21. Positions to be filled are now held by John Juriga, Joy Cichewicz, and Mike Boelter.
The deadline to file petitions for school board is 4 p.m., July 26. School board candidates are elected in the Nov. 8 general election. Seats up for election now are filled by Brent Mikulski, Kelly Owen, Kathy Kovach, and Martha Toth.

I will not vote for any returning board member (School and Township) and I’ll be very vocal to my fellow township residents.
Thank you, Lisa for being vocal to your fellow residents. I intend to do the same. Mr. Hart was an active participant in a recall that was costly, totally unnecessary and his behavior was contrary to the democratic process and he will not get my vote.
Every member of Hart’s family signed the Recall Petition, and participated in the recall process. Hart is rude to fellow Board members who oppose his opinion, and rude to residents too! The worst part of it is that Heart and Jar pretended that they were neutral because they did not want to admit that they were involved in this attempt to thwart the democratic process.
