Van Buren Township has experienced an increase of items stolen from unlocked vehicles parked in apartment complexes and neighborhoods, according to a recent Nixle alert.
These incidents happen in early morning hours between 2 and 6 a.m. Individuals will walk through a parking lot or subdivision checking for unlocked vehicles.
All different types of items are then taken from the vehicles, from spare change to lap-top computers, cell phones, purses, wallets, back packs, tools, credit cards, check books, and personal paperwork.
Police warn the public to be vigilant in locking their vehicles and setting their alarms, and to contact the police department if they see unusual foot traffic in their area.
