Classroom libraries are an important tool for educators working to instill a life-long love of reading in young students. Building and maintaining an effective library, with a diverse offering of genres and titles to appeal to a wide variety of students, can be an expensive undertaking and many teachers end up using their own money to purchase basic supplies for their classrooms, including books.
To help educators this year, the Meemic Foundation, a non-profit organization created by Meemic Insurance Company, teamed up with Scholastic Book Fairs® and Krumm Agency to give area teachers the opportunity to receive a $100 grant for books.
Tonya Porzonek and Amy Reeves of Savage Elementary School both received Scholastic Book Fair grants for their school. The Scholarship Book Fair grants from the Meemic Foundation provide recipients $100 additional dollars to spend at their in-school or online book fair event. They can also be used at Scholastic Book Fairs Warehouse sales, Scholastic Reading Club and the Scholastic Store online.
“We know that the teachers in this community give so much of themselves to help students,” said Bethann Krumm. “We are thankful to Meemic and Scholastic Book Fairs and excited to be able to work with them to offer financial support to the teachers in our community that are working to get students excited about reading.”
The Meemic Foundation has been offering financial assistance in the form of grants to schools and educators for more than 20 years.
