The Van Buren Township Fire Department announces it will have a training burn from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, in an abandoned home that is planned for demolition in the area of Van Born and Lilley roads.
Fire crews will train on search and rescue, attacking fire, and ventilation of the structure under real-life fire conditions.
This type of fire training will help prepare firefighters for structure fires in a more-controlled environment, said Gregory Laurain, VBT Public Safety Director. In order to keep fire fighters well-trained for fires within a building, training like this is necessary to refine their skills, he said.
Smoke and fire department vehicles will be seen in the area until the training is completed.
“The community’s patience and understanding is appreciated as we strive to continue to provide the best possible training experience for our first responders,” Director Laurain said.
