In 2005, Romulus Police Officer Clifford West was diagnosed with “Inclusion Body Mytositis.”
This is an incurable and progressively degenerative muscle disease. It has taken the strength and function of both his arms and legs and he was forced into a medical retirement.
West now is dependent upon a powered wheelchair for mobility. The West family had to purchase a wheelchair-accessible van, but it is in need of repairs. Numerous modifications need to be made to the family home to accommodate West’s needs, along with medical expenses not covered by his insurance.
West’s wife, Lee Ann, has become his full-time caregiver along with raising their young son.
The employees of 34th District Court are holding a benefit all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 7 to 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at the Romulus Progressive Hall, 11580 Ozga, Romulus. Donation is $10 and menu is pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice.
“Please come and have breakfast and help a family in need,” said court employee Michelle Wild, (734) 748-9057. “We thank you in advance.”
