Dahkota James Morrow, 21, of Sumpter Township practically jumped into a police car just before his arrest on Nov. 14.
Sumpter Township Police Detective John Toth said a resident returned to his Texas Street home for a minute to drop off an item before heading out to eat with a friend, when he noticed the door to his home was ajar.
He told police he entered and found a man inside his home, disconnecting his TV. He grabbed a skateboard and held the intruder captive, yelling out to his friend to call 911.
When he heard Sumpter Police arriving, the homeowner stepped out of the way and the intruder made a dash for the door, running out onto the deck, tripping, and falling down the steps, landing right in front of the Sumpter police car which Officer Beth Egerer had just stopped next to the deck.
Det. Toth said Morrow fell face down and needed medical attention. Officer Egerer had no trouble taking him into custody.
Morrow is charged with Home Invasion 2 and is labeled an habitual offender. His preliminary exam will be at 9 a.m., Nov. 27, at 34th District Court in Romulus.
On Sept. 20, 2011, Morrow was arrested for Malicious Destruction of Fire or Police Property and pled guilty. He was sentenced to probation. After probation violations, he was re-sentenced, this time to six months in the Wayne County Jail starting June 27, 2012. As of Nov. 20, 2013, he has more than $1,000 in fines still due from that case.
