In February 2013 the Van Buren Township Police Department received information that Holistic Touch & Gifts at 41015 E. Huron River Drive was operating as a front for prostitution.
In a news release on Tuesday, VBT Police Lt. Kenneth Floro said the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) started an investigation that included both undercover operations and perimeter surveillance.
At the completion of the investigation, a report was forwarded to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s office for review, which resulted in felony charges against five women. The Prosecutor authorized charges of Keeping a House of Prostitution, Prostitution, and Disorderly Conduct/Loitering in a House of Prostitution.
On May 23, the SIU arrested the business owner Kimberly Qualls on charges of keeping a house of prostitution and prostitution. The SIU then executed search warrants at Holistic Touch, as well as at Qualls’ home in Newport, MI.
On May 24, two former employees of Holistic Touch & Gifts were arrested at or near their residences: Andrea Romano of Westland and Amanda Wolford of Wyandotte. All three were arraigned on charges of keeping a house of prostitution and prostitution.
Lena Worrell of Monroe was arraigned on charges of keeping a house of prostitution and disorderly person/loitering in a house of prostitution.
The preliminary exams for all four suspects are scheduled for 9 a.m., Wednesday, June 5, at 34th District Court in Romulus.
At this time the final fifth suspect has moved from the area and a warrant remains active for her arrest.
As a result of this investigation and charges being authorized against the owner and employees of Holistic Touch & Gifts, the VBT Building and Planning Department has revoked the occupancy permit for the business, which prohibits from re-opening.
