After hearing bits and pieces from multiple sources about changes in the Van Buren Township Police Department, the Independent asked VBT Supervisor Linda Combs for official information on the police department’s reorganization.
Supervisor Combs’ Executive Assistant Karin LaMothe provided the following information:
• Captain Gregory Laurain is serving as the Interim Director of Public Safety, without a promotion.
• Former Sgt. Fred Yono chose to take a voluntary demotion that would enable him to remain in the traffic bureau.
• Lt. Ken Floro is transferring his dispatch supervision to Sgt. Jeff Gueli.
• Interim Director Laurain presently oversees the traffic bureau. In the Interim Director’s absence, Lt. Floro will assume these duties.
• Lt. Floro is not receiving a promotion.
These are the changes that have taken place since Public Safety Director Carl McClanahan’s resignation in January. No search process for a new public safety director has been announced.
