The Belleville Area District Library will host its sixth annual Garden Walk from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 31.
This year’s theme is Not So Big Gardens and seven gardens prove you don’t need a big yard to have a great garden, said Faye Traskos, Walk chairman.
From a small older lot in downtown Belleville to lots in newer Van Buren Township subdivisions, visitors are sure to be surprised at the gems in this community.
“Suspend preconceived notions and revel in the almost intergalactic carnivale atmosphere in a garden — complete with sunbathing aliens!” Traskos said.
“Or, if that sounds a little too edgy for you, visit one of the most serene settings imaginable within the city limits. Maybe herbs and vegetables pique your interest in this ‘family’ garden that invites bees, birdhouses and butterflies.
“Or, perhaps a zen-like garden with ornamental grasses, birdhouses and Buddha suits your fancy. There really is something for everyone this year.”
The Garden Market Place returns to the lawn at the Library. Gardeners are invited to add some whimsy and beauty to their gardens from the wide variety of garden merchandise, including bird baths and bird feeders, jewelry inspired by nature and flowers, hypertufa troughs, garden pottery, plants, and hanging baskets.
Advance tickets for the walk are available for $8 each at the Belleville Area District Library, Antiques on Main, Belleville Area Chamber of Commerce, and Garden Fantasy Greenhouse & Florist until July 30.
On the day of the Garden Walk, tickets are $10 and available only at the Belleville Area District Library, 167 Fourth St, Belleville. Addresses with maps are available at the Library on the day of the walk. Call 734-699-3291 for more information or visit www.belleville.lib.mi.us for a copy of the brochure.
Proceeds from the walk benefit the Belleville Area District Library.
