Jackie Davis’ rubber ducky won first place for her in last Thursday’s Lucky Rubber Ducky Race in Belleville Lake.
Rotary President Joyce Rochowiak said Davis won $250 cash.
Others who had bought $5 tickets to support the Rotary and Museum, who shared the proceeds, won the following prizes:
• Second place – Fred Ritchey, dinner for two at Johnny’s Grill;
• Third place – Dean Payne, gift certificate from Perfect Image;
• Fourth place – Bill Wolters, five admissions and five skate rentals from Rollers in Sumpter Township;
• Fifth place – Dean Payne, three bags of sweet corn from Budds’ farm;
• Sixth place – M.J. Dawson, gift certificate for $25 from Main Street Flowers;
• Seventh place – Midge Artley, gift certificate for $25 from Frosty Boy.
This year they gave a prize for the last duck to come in. Dr. Brian Loranger’s slow duck won him a copy of the local history book, “Water Under the Bridge” by Diane Wilson and Cathy Horste.
Rochowiak said there was a bit of a problem when some ducks somehow got under the noodle barricades that were keeping them in the race, and made a swim for freedom.
Swimmers dove in and got the ducks back under the noodles, but then the wind shifted, pushing the ducks back the way they came.
“We want to give a great deal of thanks to the BYC who helped us with the course,” Rochowiak said, adding, it would be a good idea to let the BYC run the race next time, since the boaters know more about the lake.
