On Tuesday, April 27, at approximately 8 p.m., the Belleville Police Department and the Van Buren Twp. Police Department were dispatched to the area of the Belleville Road Bridge and Denton Road for multiple 911 calls regarding shots being fired from a black-colored sedan at other vehicles.
Upon arrival officers were able to determine that the black sedan was traveling southbound on Belleville Road. As the vehicle approached the intersection of Denton Road in the left turn lane, an occupant of the vehicle shot several shots at vehicles stopped for the traffic light in the southbound lanes of Belleville Road at Denton.
At this time, three separate vehicles were struck by gun fire. One 16-year-old victim suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
An alert citizen witness was able to capture the license plate of the suspect vehicle. A short time later, the unoccupied suspect vehicle was located by the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department and was impounded.
A motive for this incident has yet to be identified.
Chief Robinson would like to thank the Van Buren Police Department for their exceptional assistance in this incident as well as the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department for their quick response in locating the suspect vehicle. Chief Robinson stated, “This incident is an example of the unwavering support and partnership we share regional law enforcement partners”.
“This was truly a frightening incident for the victims of this senseless crime. I cannot thank the citizens enough for their true partnership and their willingness to assist us when they witness a crime,” said Chief Robinson.

This so starting to happen all too often now. Chase keeps getting robbed, people keep getting shot. All here in small town belleville. Time to move?
Very senseless. Citizens are starting to notice more and more extremely suspicious activity in Belleville. Residents of the Waverly by the Lake are beginning to notice very suspicious person hiding inside the brush behind their complex until crazy hours. Police really should resume there lake patrols and perimeter of it. Belleville residents are really beginning to doubt their safety.
Things are getting worse for belleville ever since ypsilanti lost it’s walmart. The rabble and trouble that brought that walmart down now comes to Belleville Walmart because it’s the closest and they are shoplifting like crazy and causing fights. I quit my job there shortly after last month because it was getting scary. Lots of theft, and people getting attacked by random people. Now gunshots everywhere in Belleville, chase was robbed as another person said… Also remember the arsons in rawsonville woods and the egypt murder. Time to move out of belleville. It’s getting scary here and the police and town authorities are ignoring it.
I agree with you….. I currently live in Dawsonville Wood’s & I’ve seen, heard some strange s@#t in this trailer park subdivision… A young lady was followed out here a few weeks ago. Scary to be a lady right now. Quite a few people out here have had their wifi & security systems invaded by some random hacker (s), Random people just cutting through your trailer area & simply not caring @ all….. P@*%# me off!
Im so glad I moved out of the area a few years ago. I lived right off quirk road near the old elementary school there and despite being around the corner from the van buren police station my house was robbed twice and our neighborhood had it’s fair share of car looting. Of course, the person who was caught was from ypsi. Funny that the other commenters are saying such things about ypsi ruining belleville because it’s 100% true. Ypsilanti is full of criminals and it’s spreading into van buren twp. It’s like a virus.
I live in a house on the south service drive and have noticed some shady stuff going on over near the old mikes kitchen restaurant that closed. People parking there at night and cars meeting up at like 3am. Pretty sure drug deals. When are belleville officials gonna address the rise in crime in Belleville and van buren area? Because it’s 100% true.
How can the police handle these situations when the citizens are handcuffing the police? If the approach a parked car there at 3am and the person inside happens to be of color, the police are targeted as racist. If the person tries to run, the police cannot chase them or use ANY force to apprehend them or they will be dragged through the mud. They cannot even defend themselves and are being defunded. Why put your life on the line when the people you are trying to protect are the ones trying to get you thrown in jail? Police have a very hard job and as long as we keep siding with the criminals, then the criminals will just continue getting stronger as the police force gets weaker.
