Belleville attorney Barbara Miller loves Sumpter Township and she loves the arts.
Lately, she has been working to bring the Missoula Children’s Theatre back to Sumpter after a 20-year hiatus, brought because the program’s chairwoman Mary Herring couldn’t do all the work it took any more. She just wore out.
Last summer, Miller and her son Phillip were on their way home from Alaska when the freeway sign said “Missoula” and Phillip asked if they should stop. Miller wanted to stop and they got reacquainted with the program that was so popular for eight years locally.
Miller brought it to the Belleville Area Council for the Arts and they were very supportive and paid the $500 needed to secure a children’s program for this year.
Now, she is working through Sumpter Township red tape, but she is sure to get a grant to help with the project.
Many adults fondly remember being a part of the local Missoula Theatre as children and now it’s coming back for other youngsters from throughout the area.
Congratulations to Barbara Miller, who has come up with so many great cultural ideas for our area in the past. She’s done it again and we can hardly wait for the Missoula Children’s Theatre to arrive.
We’ve got to be sure local students are aware of the opportunity for a week of intensive theater and performances, so they can participate. It’s May 13-18.
