Following a punch and cookie reception in the lobby, Canton Township will honor the memory and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a special tribute on the Main Stage at The Village Theater at Cherry Hill in Canton on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, at 6:30 p.m. The Reception is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
This year’s keynote address will be presented by Martin Philbert, Ph.D., Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of Michigan. The program will also feature a performance by the Dodson Elementary School Choir.
Several special artists will enrich the program and reception with their artworks, including: Alga Washington’s two paintings of Dr. King — one of which is on the program cover; photographer Jim Aho with his special MLK Memorial photo; photos taken by Benedict Fernandez (Dr. King’s personal photographer); John Mullinax’s charcoal drawing of Dr. King; and Chuck Schroeder’s pen and ink drawing of Dr. King.
Tickets for the event are available at the door for $2 per person or $5 per family (cash only). Tickets can be purchased at The Village Theater Box Office one hour prior to event time.
The Village Theater at Cherry Hill, located at 50400 Cherry Hill Road, Canton, MI 48187, is a regional center for the arts that offers live theatre, music, dance, and fine art exhibitions and events, in addition to providing a home for several cultural organizations and community groups.
