Seventy-five veterans’ banners were put up by volunteers in downtown Belleville late Friday afternoon, Nov. 11, and early Saturday, Nov. 12.
Belleville Mayor Pro-Tem Ken Voigt who was in charge of the banners, explained that all but 10 on South Street were put up late on Veterans’ Day although he had planned to have them up sooner, well before Veterans’ Day. He explained that when they originally arrived every one was 6” too long and would not fit the light pole brackets. They also had extra printing at the top and bottom.
Voigt said he called the company the banners had been ordered from and was told they would be reprinted immediately and Belleville would get the new ones by Nov. 9 at the latest. They didn’t arrive until Nov. 11 and were put up immediately after they came off the Fed-Ex truck in late afternoon.
It got dark, so they finished the South Street banners on Nov. 12. He said he was very disappointed in the timing, and apologized to everyone.
Besides Voigt, who handed banners up to those on ladders, the volunteers installing the banners were Chris Donley, Robert Kenyon, Roman Kenyon, Dennis Brooks, Eric Brooks, Jim Patton, Roy Scyndlar, Goef Bush and Lori Day.
