A wrong-way driver is dead after a head-on car crash on I-94, between Haggerty and Belleville roads, at about 2:35 a.m., June 9.
The Michigan State Police say a 42-year-old man driving a 1973 Buick was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of the highway in Van Buren Township when he struck a 2021 Kia head on.
The at-fault driver was killed in the crash, police said. The driver of the Kia, a 19-year-old male, and his passenger, a 22-year-old female, were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Police said alcohol was a factor in the crash and that the man’s license is currently suspended. The driver has not been identified. The crash remains under investigation.
The eastbound lane of I-94 was closed to traffic for about five hours during the crash investigation and reopened to traffic at about 7:30 a.m. June 9.
