The first local demonstration of the two-week-old #WalkAwayMichigan group was held on the Quirk Road pedestrian walkway over I-94 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27. Rachel Dobbins of the City of Belleville, one of the state leaders of the group said this demonstration was held at the same time as one on an overpass in Grand Rapids and one alongside a road in Saginaw to coincide with a national rally in Washington, D.C.
She said she and other Democrats have just awakened to how hateful and divisive their party has become and are walking away. She said she has just become interested in politics and said her old party has become manipulative and divided and has played the members for fools. “We are walking away from the hate and violence coming from the left and the Democratic Party,” Dobbins said.
She alerted the Van Buren Township Police Department of the demonstration, and there were no problems, she said. Their signs got some honks from passing motorists, Dobbins said. Standing with Dobbins were WalkAway supporters from Ypsilanti.
