On June 28 a coyote reportedly attacked two dogs in Country Ponds Estates community, off Savage Road, sending both dogs to the veterinary hospital where they had to be stitched up.
The owner said was very thankful both dogs are still alive. She said the vet was very concerned because he said coyote don’t hunt during the day unless they are very hungry.
“Might be a child next,” she said.
She said she wanted to alert the public that small and medium-sized dogs are being attacked in broad daylight by coyotes.
She called Van Buren Township Police and talked to Belleville Police Chief Gene Taylor about the attacks. She said they suggested she let the newspapers know, so they can alert the community.
A VBT resident on Bemis Road near Martinsville reported he saw five coyotes recently in his yard. Residents of the south end of the township regularly hear coyote howls in the night.
