Sean Eugene McKeehan, 28, of Harbour Club apartments in Van Buren Township, has been charged with the five-year felony of being in possession of a sawed-off shotgun. He also is charged with felony firearm, that has a penalty of up to two years.
McKeehan was arraigned Saturday by video at 34th District Court and will have his probable cause conference at 10 a.m., March 7, at the court. He is being held in the Wayne County Jail on $50,000/10% bond.
VBT Public Safety Director Greg Laurain said at 10 p.m. Feb. 21, the man’s mother called police, saying her son is a heavy drinker and she has been unable to contact him.
She told police that he had been making claims that he is going to do a mass shooting and kill himself. She sent a screen shot of his comments to police. She told them he has lots of guns in his home.
Director Laurain said the woman met road patrol officers at his home and she opened the door for them. When they called out that they were police, he came out holding a 40-calibre Glock. They told him to put down the weapon and he took it back into his bedroom and came out without a weapon.
Police put McKeehan into protective custody, Laurain said. He identified a long list of weapons in the residence, including an AK-47, an SKS Springfield rifle, Mossberg shotgun, two Samurai swords, and a sawed-off shotgun, among other weapons.
Laurain said the sawed-off shotgun was the only weapon that wasn’t legal.
Because he was distraught, his mother signed him into the psychiatric hospital at the University of Michigan and the hospital released him on Feb. 23. That’s when VBT police took him into custody for the short-barrel shotgun.
Laurain said his officers worked with the University of Michigan to be advised when he was going to be freed. They also worked with ATF, the FBI, and Homeland Security, he said.
He said McKeehan was capable of carrying out his threats. They searched his computer and electronic devices for information.
Laurain said his department is very happy that they got somebody off the streets, who needed to be off the streets.

This is sad. Thank God his Mom cared enough to get him help. However, the paper failed to mention this man suffers from PTSD and served our country. I hope homeland security is giving him the help he needs and not just locking him up and treating him like a convict. Yes, it could have been a horrific thing if he carried out his plan. Also, what about U of M releasing him after only 2 days of treatment! I’m sure there is more to this story and his story that has been failed to mention. I thank his Mom for saving her son and our community.
How do u know he has PTSD? I do as well
From gun violence but I would never hurt anyone else
I know this young man, and it’s true.
War is part often issue in our society- I used to counsel post war vets and often when they come back they don’t get adequate help and have arsenals of weapons which they know how to use, coupled with mental problems. Wars need to be ended, not continued.
