Van Buren Township Fire crews closed the I-94 North Service Drive on Monday afternoon, estimating it would take them 12 hours to remove a passenger vehicle that was stuck nose-down in a sinkhole near Borgman Road and fix a water main break.
There was water everywhere, reported neighbors on Quirk Road.
VBT Police Lt. Ken Floro told the Detroit Free Press that the water main break caused the sinkhole and affected a few other utilities in the area.
Neighbors reported a car had an accident with a fire hydrant and that started everything.
VBT Police issued a Nixle alert just after 2 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, that the Service Drive had been reopened and crews had finished their work.
No injuries were reported.
