Sumpter Township Fire Fighters were called for mutual aid to fight a house fire on Clark Road at about noon on Sunday, Nov. 20.
When they got there they found Huron Township Fire Fighters had determined the fire was on Sumpter’s side of the road, after all, and so both departments fought Sumpter’s fire together.
A Sumpter spokesperson said a homeowner had fallen asleep in front of his burning fireplace and woke up to hear loud crackling and popping noises. His house was on fire from the fireplace. He tried to put it out himself and couldn’t.
A passerby, who called 911, said he could see flames from the road.
The homeowner was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The frame house was a complete loss.
