On Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 7:41 a.m. the Van Buren Police Department responded to a suspicious incident at the intersection of Martinsville and Burtrig, according to a department news release.
A 12-year-old Van Buren Public Schools’ student reported seeing a grey SUV parked at the intersection, which is the student’s bus stop. The student, who was to the rear of the SUV, was unable to see or identify any occupants of the grey SUV.
The SUV flashed its headlights four or five times, put the vehicle in reverse and began backing up. The student sought safety by running to a residence. From the residence, the student observed a white pick-up truck pull up next to the grey SUV, as if both drivers were talking. Both vehicles left together going north on Martinsville.
At no time did the occupant of the gray SUV speak to the student.
The Van Buren Police Department will continue to investigate and monitor the area, said the news release. The department encourages students to be aware of their surroundings and report any unusual activity.
