Shelby Wilson of Belleville, the 2011 valedictorian at Huron High School in New Boston, recently graduated from the University of Michigan–Dearborn earning the department award for honors in psychology.
In 2014 Shelby received an award as a Difference Maker for her work as volunteer coordinator for the Michigan Urban Farming Initiative, a very productive farm in Detroit. She also received a scholarship and a grant for the farm in Ford Blue Oval competition.
Shelby has worked the past two years as a behavior therapist at the Children’s Center in Detroit, one on one with the children, as well as doing research on how autism affects families. Her thesis, “Treatment Related Stress in Parents of Children with Autism,” may be published.
Shelby was accepted into the General Clinical Psychology Master’s program at Eastern Michigan University as well as a graduate assistantship, allowing her to teach psychology labs to undergraduates.
Shelby is the daughter of proud parents Lena and Michael Wilson.
