Nominations will be sought this fall for the newly organized Belleville High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Nominations for the first honors will be accepted Sept. 1 through Oct. 1.
The purpose of the BHS Athletic Hall of Fame is to recognize individuals and teams who have, through their performance, conduct, and achievement brought credit and honor to themselves, BHS, and the community.
Their public example will, hopefully, serve to inspire future graduates to perform and serve in the same spirit, according to a recent news release.

The following are the criteria for induction.
Student Athletes:
• Athletes must be at least 30 years old and a graduate in good standing of BHS. Only athletic achievements as a BHS athlete will be considered.
• Must have earned at least two varsity letters in any sport offered at BHS.
• Must have earned recognition for their athletic accolades. For example: All-State, All-Conference, All-Division honors, etc.
Varsity Coaches/Administrators:
• Must have served at BHS for a minimum of 10 years.
• Evidence of outstanding Varsity coaching or administration career.
• Must have had a direct significant impact on high school athletics or activities.
• May be selected one year after leaving BHS.
Teams:
• Must have won at least one MHSAA championship. For example, won a district, regional, final four appearance, state runner-up, or state championship.
• Team would be eligible five years following championship year.
Nominees will be eligible for five years. Committee members are eligible for nomination and induction, but must recuse themselves when voting. Nominees shall be solicited from the public. Nominees must be nominated by someone other than himself or herself.
The first class will consist of ten inductees. No more than five inductees will be inducted annually after the initial class of inductees. The committee will meet in October, annually, to vote. A nominee must have a super majority (7 of 9) in order to be elected to the Hall of Fame.
The induction ceremony will be held during a Friday night BHS basketball game.
