The Greater Romulus Chamber of Commerce has scheduled a new
event on Feb. 26, called the “Black-Owned Business and Vendor Showcase.” The Showcase is free to attend and open to the public. It will be held at the City Event Centre at 37451 Ecorse Rd. in Romulus.
The City Event Centre is a member of the Romulus Chamber and owned by Rasaq Gbadamosi, a native of Nigeria. The event is sponsored by the Telegram Newspaper.
The Black-Owned Business and Vendor Showcase is the newest offering from the
Chamber’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Task Force. The Task Force held an “Intro to DEI” event last fall and is also working on a Women in Business Panel Discussion for March.
Jazmine Danci, executive director for the Chamber, said that, currently, about 10% of the Chamber’s members are black-owned businesses, but they are hoping to see that increase.
“Black and other minority-owned businesses are an important part of the
economy,” Danci said. “We hope the Showcase will bring together new consumers and buyers, strengthening
the whole community.”
Black-owned businesses from Romulus and the surrounding area are invited to
purchase table space at the Showcase on a first-come-first-served basis online at
Tinyurl.com/yr95upb5, or the link is on their Facebook page. Vendor spaces
are $40 for those who do not belong to the Greater Romulus Chamber of Commerce and $20 for current members. If you want to join, there are discounts available as well.
Danci said the Greater Romulus Chamber aims to build and strengthen the local economy by providing networking opportunities and promotions for its members. See its website at www.romuluschamber.org , call (734) 893-0694, or follow it on Facebook @RomulusChamber.
