The public is invited to a special Aug. 25 party at September Days Senior Center to view the 20-minute movie “I Remember Yesterday” that was shot in this area a year ago and to socialize with the cast and crew.
Sales of the movie’s DVD will be used to help victims of Alzheimer’s and dementia, the film’s subject.
The event will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Van Buren Township Senior Center, 46425 Tyler Road.
The no-budget/non-profit short film was shot in the Metro Detroit and Belleville area, the brainchild of Oliver Siegel, who was a volunteer from Germany at September Days.
Siegel was writer, producer and director. The film was made by the seniors, using senior actors and actresses, under Siegel’s direction.
The movie premiered at a theater in Canton and went on to win an award at a film festival in Houston, Texas. The DVD is now available and will be sold at the party for $10. The price goes up to $15 after that.
Siegel said the profits from the sale will go to a yet-to-be-determined Alzheimer’s or dementia-related organization.
There will be free snacks and refreshments at the party and guests will have an opportunity to meet Siegel and the cast and crew and to admire the award.
Besides the movie, the DVD shows the making of the movie, outtakes, pictures from the set, the trailer, and touching stories from people who actually deal with Alzheimer’s and dementia. The DVD also includes newspaper articles on the project and information about the cast and crew.
Siegel said the DVD is professionally printed and labeled, with a cover, case, and shrink-wrap packaging.
