A man was riding his bicycle with his dog on Venetian Street, behind Trinity Episcopal Church, in Van Buren Township at about 8 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, when two pit bulls attacked the man’s Husky.
The man tried to protect his dog and incurred bites from his fingertips to his elbows, according to a neighbor.
The Husky required surgery and many stitches, since he had puncture wounds in his groin and hind legs, the neighbor said. The veterinary bills are already up to $500, she said.
VBT Police Lt. Charles Bazzy said the owner of the dogs was going out to her mailbox and she let her dogs out to go with her. She was ticketed for dog at large and no dog license, two tickets for each dog, he said.
Lt. Bazzy said the dogs were up to date on their inoculations, so they did not have to be quarantined.
He said the neighborhood is safe because he believes the dog owner got the message about keeping her dogs under control.
