On Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. -2 p.m., local photographer Susan Richardson (Timeless Images by Susan), in partnership with the Holiday Inn Express and Moving the Mitten Real Estate Group, will host the 2nd-annual “Headshots for Humanity” fundraiser.
This event will offer a complimentary mini-headshot session to all registered participants in exchange for their donation to Operation Smile. There will be refreshments, raffles and prizes and the opportunity to network with fellow professionals from the community.
Founded in 1982, Operation Smile treats children around the world who suffer with cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities, offering them free surgeries and a chance to live a normal life. In as little as 45 minutes, one cleft lip surgery can change a child’s life forever. One hundred percent of the proceeds from this event will benefit Operation Smile.
As an addition to this year’s event, Moving the Mitten Real Estate Group will cover the cost of the $24 donation for all transitioning military personnel and veterans.
Richardson explained the philosophy behind this additional incentive: “I’ve spent 20 years as an HR professional and I know the challenges that our service men and women often face when they leave the service and attempt to find employment outside of the military.
“That’s why, this year, I wanted to provide free professional headshots and additional resources aimed at supporting them in their job search. In addition to receiving their headshot, they’ll have access to other free resources including employment resources, resume-writing services, financial support, continuing education resources, and more.
“Photographers are in the business of smiles,” said Richardson, a member of Professional Photographers of America. She has run her boutique photography studio in Belleville for seven years.
“This is the perfect charity for us to support. Reading the stories of these children is heartbreaking. Many do not survive because of malnourishment or even abandonment. But we have the power to make a difference. These children and their families are in need. This is one simple way that we can make a big difference for those less fortunate than us.”
All attendees must register in advance, as space is limited.
