At Tuesday’s meeting of the Belleville Area District Library board, architect Dan Whisler said he got a call earlier that day that workers had just uncovered an 8-12” storm pipe in the digging around for the library construction that nobody knew was there.
He said it is an old pipe with holes in it but nobody knows where it starts and where it stops. He said workers plan to scope the pipe with a camera to see where it goes. Whisler said the city was unaware it was there.
He said that is what happens sometimes in excavations. There are surprises.
Joy Cichewicz, chairman of the building committee, said the project is about a month behind schedule now, but extra time had been allowed in the plans.
Whisler said this week they got the first pictures of the structural steel plans and now the steel can be manufactured and be on the site around Thanksgiving. He expects the first girders to go up by Christmas.
