The Memorial Day services in Belleville will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at the Veterans’ Memorial on High Street in Horizon Park.
The commemoration is presented annually by David C. Brown Funeral Home and Brown Family Services.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4434 and Polish League of American Veterans 167 are presenting the biographies of two more local veterans whose names are engraved on the monument. Six have been presented so far in previous ceremonies.
The life stories were researched and written by VFW member Cornell Anton and will be presented by Anton and City Councilman Tom Fielder.
The names of area veterans who have died recently will then be read. Wreaths will be laid by several organizations, then members of the VFW and PLAV will render a 21-gun salute, to be followed by the playing of “Taps.”
Patriotic songs will be sung by Geof Bush and Lori Day. Opening and closing prayers will be offered by Father John Kiselica of St. Anthony Catholic Church.
In the past, there had been a motorcycle tour before the ceremony, but there are no motorcycles this year.
