On July 30 and 31, Main Street in downtown Belleville had lanes blocked off as a contractor worked on joint and crack sealing the street.
Michigan Joint Sealing of Farmington Hills got the work for submitting the low bid of $61,098. A 10% contingency was approved, boosting the cost to a possible $67,208.
The work included pulling out the deteriorating seals, scraping the joints, cleaning out the joints and then squirting blacktop into the joints to seal them up. New joints were cut into the middle of the traffic lanes.
The contractor then moved to do all the streets in Victoria Commons and then will do South Liberty Street.
DPW Director Keith Tackett said at that point they will evaluate how much money is left to complete North Liberty, Roys, and Fifth streets, as planned.
Main Street was brand new in 2010.
